In 1989, the Julius Keilwerth company underwent a massive corporate restructure: It became a division of the Boosey & Hawkes Group. The other thing that happened in 1989, is that SX90R model saxophone was introduced to the market.1 And while the SX90R has been improved, tweaked—and at times released as special editions over the past 4 decades—to this day it remains Keilwerth’s professional model saxophone in a variety of models. And yes, it is MADE IN GERMANY, mostly by hand.
These pages contained here in the Keilwerth section will outline not only the current production model SX90R, but also some of the other fantastic horns that have been made since 1989, which have sadly seen their production come to an end. Remember the SX90 alto, tenor, and bari? How about the CX90? Then of course there is MKX.
Included in this section will also be a Keilwerth serial number chart that I have managed to cobble together from a variety of reliable of sources. I am hoping to update it a bit more in the coming while.
As this is a work in progress, more pages will become visible in the navigation as I publish them, so check back on occasion and see how I am progressing with my research.
