Although I for the most part prefer to play vintage instruments, there are some modern horns that are simply spectacular.
I never thought I would find myself as a new horn player, but in September 2023, I found myself play-testing—and ultimately buying—a brand new, SX90R Shadow by Julius Keilwerth. These particular instruments are made much in the tradition of their vintage ancestors, but have all the features you would expect from a modern instrument.
As much as I love my Shadow, there are other manufacturers that also make/made extremely fine saxophones.
